The Temecula Public Cemetery was founded in 1884 with land donated by Mercedes Pujol, widow of Domingo Pujol. The Temecula Public Cemetery District was formed in 1928, when Public Cemetery Districts were formed in California to provide lower cost burial facilities to residents. Graves sold for $200 with a $75 charge to open and close the grave by the groundskeeper. Many of the Temecula's pioneers are buried in this cemetery, several whose names are still very familiar today.
The planned tour is for the oldest part of the cemetery (the pioneer section) and will be 2 hours in length limited to 10 people only. Other conditions will apply while taking the tour out of respect for those who are buried or may be visiting.
